Returning to England in 1918 after World War I, Polish Jacques Spreiregen began importing berets from France. Promoting them as essential postwar accessories, he built a name for himself in the manufacture and distribution of berets, creating KANGOL in 1938, combining the words 'knitting,' 'angora' and 'wool.' In 1954 the beret was revisited, taking the form of the now famous domed Kangol hat worn by the Beatles, the British Olympic team and Princess Diana. Kangol, in addition to fashion, had a strong impact on a cultural level, offering an approach born of the synthesis of English tradition, hip hop, and futuristic flair.
